Tawata Productions presents the Auckland season of the innovative performance installation Fire In The Water, Fire In The Sky created and directed by Mīria George. A provocative installation shown in art galleries and museums, Fire In The Water, Fire In The Sky is devised and performed by Te Hau Winitana, Mapihi Kelland and Amanda Noblett.

Fire In The Water, Fire In The Sky is a modern statement of climate change and colonisation across the Pacific, an untangling of the greatest collision to have impacted Te Moana-nui-a-kiva – western imperialism.

Told through movement, ‘ura, song and theatre, Fire In the Water, Fire In The Sky is a cautionary tale of greed, destruction and big business. It, too, is a call for hope.

Due to the ongoing concerns of covid-19, the international premiere of Fire In The Water, Fire In The Sky as part of FestPac in O’ahu, Hawai’i, has been postponed until 2021. The installation was created in O’ahu in 2017 as part of Mīria’s Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writer in Residency at University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Fire In The Water, Fire In The Sky premiered in 2017 as part of Kia Mau Festival.

Featuring design by Cara Louise Waretini and Tony De Goldi.  This work is produced by Tawata Productions.
